“My copy editing class celebrated National Punctuation Day yesterday. We were a week late but nonetheless enthusiastic. This year, the students decided on the Punctuation Pizza, as they called it. They also decided on the exclamation point, fashioned out of pepperoni, to illustrate their excitement over punctuation. I think they wanted to outdo last fall’s class and their punctuation cupcakes. National Punctuation Day is a fun way to cap off my lessons about punctuation in news writing and editing.” — Sent by Jan Leach, Kent State University, Ohio
I am an Unrepentant English Major. But as an Unrepentant English Major, I must admit to being embarrassed to find that I did not know today is National Punctuation Day. Fortunately, I have my Tunheim Partners colleague — and fellow English geek — Noelle Hawton to thank for that awareness.
To celebrate this wonderful national holiday, she brought in National Punctuation Day Cookies for us to savor. And how appropriate is that? Especially for those of us who enjoy language so much we can practically taste it when reading a fabulous poem or some F. Scott Fitzgerald.
Mmmmmm. . .coooooooookieeeeeees!
